TRIBUTE TO KEMP
The P-51 Mustang is an american lang range, single seat fighter and fighter-bomber used during World War 2 and the Korean War. The Mustang was designed to use the Allison V-1710 which had limited high altitude performance, so the engine was later replaced with a Rolls-Royce Merlin which transformed the aircraft’s performance at high altitudes above 15,000 ft. The P-51 was an effective bomber escort. It used a reliable engine with external fuel tanks. It could accompany the bombers from England to Germany and back. The P-51 was not just used for the British and American forces but for Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Costa Rica and Cuba just to name a few.
The B-25 Mitchell is an American medium bomber that was introduced in 1941. Used by many allied air forces, the B-25 served in every theater of World War 2, and after the war ended many remained in service for decades. The b25 was used in the attack on Japan following Pearl Harbor, also known as Doolittle’s Raid. The majority in American service were used in the war against Japan in Asia. The B-25 was a safe and forgiving aircraft to fly. Even with one engine out, 60 degree banding turns into the dead engine were still possible, and control could easily be maintained down to 145mph. The tricycle landing gear made for excellent visibility while taxiing. It was such a great plane that the only complaint was the extremely high noise the engine made. As a result many pilots eventually suffered from hearing loss.
